Front Room Reveal

Label: Before and After, Label: DIY, Label: New Home

I can't believe six months have gone by since I shared the first glimpse of what I wanted for my front room's color story. At the time I was crushing hard over this color palette and have been working hard to get there. Luckily, I'm still in love with this inspiration board today.

Over the last six months, we've put a lot of elbow grease into this room. Remember the before? Ack! That wall! It hurts my eyes just looking at it.

Progress was made when we painted that hideous wall a soft gray and put some of our furniture in.

And here's what it looks like today. I was able to combine the elements I wanted and still keep it a livable space. I have two kiddos after all!

A view from of the bay window area. The before picture is from the day we moved into the house.

This image was taken before I moved the tall brass lamp next to the couch, but you get the jist. This angle shows our gorgeous new banister.

I am seriously dying over those hardwood floors. The hallway already had a dated red oak flooring, so we sanded it down and continued the red oak (stained a dark brown) into the front room. By keeping the existing hardwood and simply adding to it, we were able to save a bunch of mulah.

I love the little touches of gold and fun accessories. When designing for yourself, there is no need to try and match another person's look. Decorate with things that you love and don't take it too seriously. My favorite thing to do is mix patterns and textures, vintage and modern.

All of the brass items I found while thrifting or purchased from Found: Vintage Home Decor. I luckily found two copper lamps at my local thrift store. They aren't matchy-matchy, which I think works to the benefit of the room. I tend to be very symmetrical when decorating, and I'm trying to get better at being more spontaneous. Different lamps that carry the same vibe help balance the room without going too symmetrical.

Can I just tell you how much a labor of love this room has been? I am in love with it, so if you hate it, don't tell me. My two favorite pieces are for sure the wood shim mirror and the ikat-inspired painting done by one of my really good friends. She gave it to me as a housewarming gift, and now I want to commission her to paint one for every room in the house. It draws together all the colors I wanted for the room.

Phew. Now, on to the next project. Having a house is hard work!
