I really, really dislike brass light fixtures, handles and the like but I really love fun brass objects. The only problem is that most copper/brass objects I find while thrifting are in pretty poor condition with a spotty patina. I'll be the first to say that I love a good patina. But there is a difference between a nice, aged copper or brass object and a disgusting copper or brass object. Take for example this awesome brass sailboat.
I found her drowning at a local thrift store for $1.50. She was covered in spots and rust...not a good patina.
She really was in really bad shape, but I knew under that grime was something beautiful.
Have you guys ever used this stuff? It works awesome on ceramic stove tops, stainless steel surfaces and polishes like a dream.
It really is quite easy:
Step One: Dampen an old rag
Step Two: Sprinkle the rag with Bar Keepers Friend
Step Three: Scrub, scrub, scrub
Step Four: Rinse out rag and wipe object clean. Also use a dry towel to buff the object.
Voila! Isn't she beautiful? I love, love, love it all shiny and clean.
Here's a picture of another bowl I shined up. Notice the shiny outside and the untouched inside? A little polish really makes a huge difference.
If you are gasping in horror that I removed this tiny sailboat's authentic patina, visit
Michael's website for a pretty good tutorial on how to re-patinia it!

Bar Keepers Friend did not sponsor this post. I just really love that stuff!*******
